PPAv's IND Indicator and UFS-AN Sensor

The PPAv IND/UFS-AN kit uses an infrared (IR) emitter and detector and microprocessor to detect the presence of air in tanks containing non-particulate bearing liquids such as fuel, water, hydraulic fluid and so on.  It was designed to provide a warning of a low fuel (or other liquids) condition in header or similar tanks.  The IND/UFS-AN kit has application for header tanks in airplanes, boats, recreational vehicles and so on.  It can also be applied to pesticide and aerial spraying applications and others where it is important to detect the presence of air.  To see how the UFS-AN works, click here.

The UFS-AN is installed in the tank at the level where the alert or warning is required.  (The UFS-AN has a 1/4" male NPT thread.)  The UFS-AN is then wired to the IND Indicator.  When air is detected in the tank, the IND indicator flashes, alerting the operator of the condition.

The IND/UFS-AN has three outputs: a 0 to +V "flashing" output that be used with PPAv's IND Alarm Indicator, a pull-to-ground output that can be connected to annunciators or other indicating devices, and a "logic-level" output that can be used with logic circuits.  The UFS-AN also features a built-in test capability.  When the PTT line is activated, a small additional current is sent to the IR emitter, forcing an "air" signal to be detected and indicated on the indicator.  This is a true end-to-end test of the sensing system, not just a test of the light bulb as most press-to-test circuits provide.  The UFS-AN also features an "acknowledge" feature; if the PTT line is momentarily pulled to ground, the alarm is cleared until the UFS-AN is power-cycled.  The "acknowledge" feature allows an alarm to be indicated and then cleared by the operator to avoid a constant alarm indication.

All hardware necessary to install the IND/UFS-AN is provided with the kit.  Only wire and a few hand tools are required for installation.  The standard IND kit legend reads "LOW FUEL".  Customized legends are available.  Complete instructions are provided with the kit.
